MX provider detection

Knowing who handles a domain's email is the first step for migrations and troubleshooting. The tool compares MX records against known host-name patterns, labels a match as the likely service and checks consistency with the sending services in SPF.

This tool runs in your browser and needs JavaScript.

How to use it

  1. Enter the domain whose email you want to look at.
  2. Press the run button. Results are listed separately as definite problems, possible issues, unverifiable and passed; each finding shows what was found, what it means, the fix and the limits of the check.
  3. Apply the suggested fix and run the tool again to confirm. Use “Copy result” to add the report to a support ticket.

Example

If you moved to Google Workspace but one MX record still points to the old server, the tool reports the mixed MX setup as a possible issue. The “Example” button in the form fills in a scenario like this and shows the result immediately.

Scope and limits

The service name is only inferred by matching MX host names against known patterns. A service may run on another's infrastructure or behind a gateway; ask the domain owner for certainty.

Your inputs are not added to the address bar or passed to analytics, and result pages are not indexed by search engines.
