SPF record analyzer

An SPF record states which servers may send email for your domain. A single typo, a second SPF record or too many includes makes the whole record invalid. The tool parses the record, follows the include chain with real DNS queries and counts the lookups.

This tool runs in your browser and needs JavaScript.

How to use it

  1. Enter your domain; optionally paste an SPF record you want to try before publishing it.
  2. Press the run button. Results are listed separately as definite problems, possible issues, unverifiable and passed; each finding shows what was found, what it means, the fix and the limits of the check.
  3. Apply the suggested fix and run the tool again to confirm. Use “Copy result” to add the report to a support ticket.

Example

If a record with Google Workspace, a newsletter service and invoicing software goes over 10 lookups, the tool flags it as a definite problem and shows in the tree how many lookups each include costs. The “Example” button in the form fills in a scenario like this and shows the result immediately.

Scope and limits

The analysis reads records from public DNS resolvers and counts lookups according to RFC 7208. We cannot state the SPF result of a specific message without the sending IP; use the email header analyser for that.

Your inputs are not added to the address bar or passed to analytics, and result pages are not indexed by search engines.
