Backup storage planner
The longer backups are kept, the more space they take; incrementals save space but tie restores to a chain. The planner works out the space needed to hold every backup of your schedule at once, states its assumptions and checks your copies against the 3-2-1 rule.

This tool runs in your browser and needs JavaScript.
How to use it
- Enter the data size, daily change rate, method and how many backups to keep.
- Press the run button. Results are listed separately as definite problems, possible issues, unverifiable and passed; each finding shows what was found, what it means, the fix and the limits of the check.
- Apply the suggested fix and run the tool again to confirm. Use “Copy result” to add the report to a support ticket.
Example
Keeping 7 daily, 4 weekly and 6 monthly backups of a 12 GB site in two places, the tool shows the total space and the oldest restore point. The “Example” button in the form fills in a scenario like this and shows the result immediately.
Scope and limits
The calculation runs in your browser and relies on the assumptions stated above.
Your inputs are not added to the address bar or passed to analytics, and result pages are not indexed by search engines.
