Creating Your First Client Account with a WHM Reseller Plan

Reseller hosting lets you create separate cPanel accounts for your own clients. Each client gets their own panel, password and resource limits, while you manage them all from one place in WHM.

What's in your reseller account?

When you log in to WHM you only see the tools available to resellers: creating accounts, listing accounts, suspending, changing passwords, DNS and SSL management, and so on. Server-wide settings and other resellers' accounts aren't visible to you.

The total disk space and number of accounts on your plan are shared across all the client accounts you create. These figures are stated clearly on our reseller hosting plans.

Packages: what to know before creating accounts

Every account in WHM is created with a package. The package sets limits such as disk space, monthly traffic, and the number of email accounts and databases. On OrienHost reseller accounts, the packages you can use are defined by us and assigned to your account. That way each client account's CPU and RAM limits are set to keep the server balanced. If you need a different package structure, write to us through a support ticket.

Creating the first account

  1. In WHM open Account Functions › Create a New Account.
  2. Enter your client's main domain in the Domain field. A username is suggested automatically; you can change it.
  3. Generate a strong password and enter the client's contact email. Alerts and password reset links go to that address.
  4. Choose a suitable package from the list of packages assigned to you.
  5. Click Create. The account is ready within seconds.

Pointing your client's domain

Once the account exists, your client's domain must point to the nameservers in your welcome email, or to the server IP. Until it does, the site won't load and no SSL certificate is issued. If your client wants to keep using email without interruption, share our guide to changing nameservers without losing email.

What to send your client

  • The cPanel login address and username.
  • Send the password through a separate channel, or ask the client to change it on first login.
  • The nameserver or IP details.
  • How to reach you for support.

For their first login you can also send our first steps in cPanel article.

Day-to-day management

  • The List Accounts screen shows each account's disk usage.
  • Rather than deleting a client who hasn't paid, suspend the account first; you can unsuspend it with one click when payment arrives.
  • To enter a client's panel without asking for their password, use the cPanel icon in WHM's account list.

To handle your clients' support requests in an orderly way, see our reseller support workflow.
