DNS propagation comparison

After you change a record some visitors may keep seeing the old address, because resolvers cache answers for the TTL. The tool sends the same query to five public resolvers from a fixed list and compares the answers and remaining times. The result reflects a limited set of resolvers; it is not proof of worldwide propagation.

This tool runs in your browser and needs JavaScript.

How to use it

  1. Enter the record name and type; optionally the new value you expect.
  2. Press the run button. Results are listed separately as definite problems, possible issues, unverifiable and passed; each finding shows what was found, what it means, the fix and the limits of the check.
  3. Apply the suggested fix and run the tool again to confirm. Use “Copy result” to add the report to a support ticket.

Example

After moving your site and changing the A record, enter the new IP as the expected value to see which resolvers still return the old address. The “Example” button in the form fills in a scenario like this and shows the result immediately.

Scope and limits

A fixed list of public resolvers is queried: Google Public DNS, Cloudflare and AliDNS from your browser; Quad9 and AdGuard DNS via our server. No other server is contacted based on your input.

Your inputs are not added to the address bar or passed to analytics, and result pages are not indexed by search engines.
